Dan Rather to Be Keynote Speaker at 25th Annual Big Apple Awards

Rather Speech Follows Release of Highly-Anticipated New Book

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Apr 30, 2012) - The New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NY) today announced that Dan Rather, award-winning journalist and former anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 25th Annual Big Apple Awards gala reception on May 24th. Rather's keynote address closely follows the release of his new book, RATHER OUTSPOKEN: My Life in the News, to be published by Grand Central Publishing on May 1, 2012.

"With his long and storied career on television around the globe, Dan Rather has covered virtually every major news event in the world over the past 60 years," said Lea-Ann Germinder, APR, Fellow PRSA, 2012 Big Apple Chair and President, Germinder & Associates, Inc. "I can't think of a speaker better suited to address the PRSA-NY's membership on the role of independent media today and the emerging relationship between the news media and political and corporate interests."

Rather will speak during the awards ceremony on May 24th, 2012 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and will touch upon narratives from his new book. RATHER OUTSPOKEN: My Life in the News chronicles the events that led up to Rather's dismissal from CBS News and his experience seeing his career and reputation called into question in the fallout. Rather reveals what lead him into investigative journalism, what really happened behind the scenes at CBS, and how his new work at HDNet's Dan Rather Reports might be his best yet.
