Dance Factory Dynamo Takes Center Stage; 10-Year-Old Christopher Lucas Wins Scholarship at Burbank CoDance Convention

LOMITA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 12, 2007 -- Local boy wins scholarship at CoDance Convention held January 6 - 7 in Burbank. 10-year-old Christopher Lucas, a student at Lomita-based Dance Factory (www.dance-factory.com), took home the grand prize of a free trip to next year's convention for his masterful dancing abilities.

Over 300 dance students strutted their stuff in Burbank last weekend at CoDance, a convention that showcases young dancers and helps them reach their personal best and improves their self-esteem. Winners of the convention were selected by some of the nation's top dance teachers. Christopher, a convention winner and 3 of the runner-ups: Monique Ponce, Vicki Roan, and Harlie Ramirez were all from the Dance Factory. "We were so proud of all of our students and Christopher and his passion, a wonderful example for boys that want to learn dance," said Janice Ray of The Dance Factory.

Peer pressure is often a stopping block in dance for young boys, but it never stopped Christopher. At age 6 Christopher started at The Dance Factory and once he honed his skills he promptly made flyers advertising lessons in his garage and passed them out to the neighborhood. At the same time he wrote in his mother's checkbook that he needed $30,000 for a dance studio. "His passion started young," said Michelle Monreal, his instructor of 4 years.

"A boy like Christopher, we hope will inspire other boys to put aside the original awkwardness of dance for boys and encourage a love and enthusiasm for the sport," says Ray. Our instructors especially help boys gain extra flexibility and technique. In addition to the Lomita and Palos Verdes-based Dance Factory, other California Schools are encouraging more participation from boys.
