DanceOn Network & Nigel Lythgoe Web Series "Dance School Diaries" -- a People Magazine 'Pick of the Week'

Web Series Follows Teens Competing in the Most Prestigious Youth Ballet Competition

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - September 16, 2014) - Dance School Diaries, a popular new Web series on the DanceOn YouTube network, named a People Magazine 'Pick of the Week,' looks inside the lives of four Orange County, Calif., teenagers competing in the most prestigious youth ballet competition, the Youth America Grand Prix.

The series follows Madison Chappell, 15; Andrea Guite, 16; Sage Humphries, 16; and Lex Ishimoto, 16.

Both Madison and Sage are students at Dmitri Kulev Classical Ballet Academy but could not be more different in terms of experience. Sage began dancing at age four, while Madison only began at 12. Sage splits her time between ballet, modeling, acting and playing and singing in her band. Supported by her family, she insists she can do it all. Madison, meanwhile, is playing catch up. She is at a disadvantage for not having begun her dance training earlier in her life. But she doesn't let that discourage her; she just tries that much harder.

Andrea has spent her entire ballet career -- going on six years -- at Southland Ballet Academy, while Lex, the lone male dancer profiled in the series, also dances at Southland, but his main studio is at the West Coast School of the Arts. Andrea's attention seems to be pulled in many directions, friends, school, music -- all the fun of being a typical teenager. But she's supported by her fellow dancers and a studio she loves. Lex, on the other hand, lives and breathes the stage.

The YAGP competition offers these dance students the opportunity to get scholarships to the biggest ballet schools in the world, which ultimately can help them achieve their goals. On this journey, some dancers will rise and some will fall under the pressure, but in the end all will have changed in the pursuit of their dreams.

The series' executive producers are Nigel Lythgoe, Amanda Taylor, Kristin Campbell-Taylor, Lawrence Bender, Kevin Brown, Alex Reznik and Larisa Saveliev. "Dance School Diaries" partner on the series is Capezio, whose mission is to support the advancement of dance, theater and recreation in communities worldwide.

"I believe the 'Dance School Diaries' give an insight into the hard work, dedication and sacrifices that dancers make in order to achieve their dreams," said executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.

"With 'Dance School Diaries,' we worked with the best in the industry, Nigel Lythgoe, the most prolific producer of dance entertainment for television and YAGP, the world's largest international student ballet competition," commented Amanda Taylor, CEO of the DanceOn network. "At DanceOn, we are committed to fostering a community for people who are passionate about dance by bringing great content to a global audience that is continuing to expand every day."
