Daniel F. Muzyka Appointed as Vice-President and Chair of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada

The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry, and the Honourable Ed Holder, Minister of State (Science and Technology), today announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel F. Muzyka as Vice-President and Chair of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), effective November 27, 2014.

Dr. Muzyka is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Conference Board of Canada and the RBC Financial Group Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business. Dr. Muzyka has been a council member of NSERC since 2008.

NSERC is a federal agency that helps make Canada a country of discoverers and innovators. The agency supports almost 30,000 post-secondary students and post-doctoral fellows in their advanced studies. NSERC promotes discovery by funding approximately 12,000 professors every year and fosters innovation by encouraging over 3,000 Canadian companies to participate and invest in post-secondary research projects.

  • Dr. Muzyka holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from Harvard University, an MBA with concentration in Strategic Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA with Honours in Physics and Astronomy from Williams College.
