Danville School District Student Situation Resolved

DANVILLE, PA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 5, 2007 --The Danville Area School District deeply regrets the recent incident with the Danville Middle School student who was charged for disorderly conduct. The charges have been dropped. The situation was a result of a miscommunication between the principal, the parent, and police. The school district will continue to work with the parents to implement plans to address the unique needs of the child.

The parents of the child continue to be supportive of the district's efforts and the child's program. They have offered to write the following letter to Superintendent Steven P. Keifer to express their perspective on this matter.

Dear Mr. Keifer:

This letter is in reference to news media articles concerning our daughter, a special education student in the Danville School District. It is unfortunate that one isolated incident with the police has put the district in such an unfair light. Although, we are not happy that the police were called, we know that it is not district policy to call police on special education students. There has been much publicity concerning the police incident and the alleged poor treatment of special education students in the district.

We want a true and accurate reporting of our experiences with the district concerning special education students. We chose to live in the Danville area because of the excellent educational programs. As the parents of special education students we have worked closely with you and Mrs. Ricki Boyle to develop educational plans for our children.

Our district has received unfair publicity concerning the treatment of special education students. Since the articles are concerning our 12-year-old daughter, we would like everyone to know how we feel about the school district. We feel that Danville is the best district in the state. We believe the district to be outstanding because of your leadership as superintendent, Ricki Boyle's special education interventions and the hard work of the teachers.

We would like everyone to recognize our district for its accomplishments for all students, including the special education students.

Our daughter is happy to be attending classes at Danville School District and we now consider the incident closed. Please feel free to publicize this letter in any way you feel appropriate so that our position on this matter is conveyed accurately.
