Daptiv Bridges Traditional and Agile Projects With New, Integrated Agile PPM Solution

Rally Software First in a Series of Integrations Aimed at Providing Executive-Level Visibility Across Project Portfolios Using Both Traditional and Agile Methods

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - April 5, 2011) - Daptiv, the on-demand leader in project portfolio management (PPM) solutions, today announced a new agile PPM solution with the ability to integrate real-time project data from 'best-of-breed' agile development tools, starting with Rally Software. Daptiv now allows customers that are using both traditional and agile methodologies to create a "single source of truth" for executive reporting and decision-making, without disrupting the culture and work practices of an agile team. Rally Software is the first in a series of agile development tools that will be integrated into Daptiv PPM.

Given the widespread adoption of agile practices, project management leaders are struggling to redefine their roles to focus less on planning and controlling and more on providing an environment that allows agile projects to succeed. However, even with this willingness to adopt agile, integrating agile projects into a PPM framework is often fraught with difficulty and PMOs are faced with reconciling different (and often conflicting) methodologies, metrics, and controls. Furthermore, the rise of 'best-of-breed' agile development tools has led to islands of information being created outside of PPM tools used for executive decision-making.

"Perhaps the clearest sign of the mainstreaming of Agile is the abandonment of orthodoxy: teams are puzzling out the mix of methodologies and combining them to fit within their organizational realities, blending Agile and non-Agile techniques and practices to create a hybrid methodology that fits larger organizations," stated the Forrester Research Inc. report: "Agile Development: Mainstream Adoption Has Changed Agility," January 2010. The report continues, "Other changes, such as new team dynamics and the redefinition of roles such as the business analyst, show the genuine force behind Agile adoption."

Unlike rigid PPM tools, Daptiv solves these challenges with a solution that can incorporate many different methodologies used within an organization to provide the predictability and accountability that executive stakeholders need to run their business. By allowing PMOs to work with a mix of project types and development methodologies, Daptiv allows customers to build project portfolios that leverage traditional waterfall and agile-based methods based on the needs of a project. This flexibility delivers executive visibility into project health without disrupting the culture and work practices of an agile team.

Realizing the Best of Both Worlds

Daptiv's integration with Rally Software creates a single reporting framework that provides transparency into agile project execution and ensures consistency in project reporting. The solution, offered through Daptiv's on-demand integration service Daptiv Connect™, provides standard metrics such as project health, percentage complete, scheduled finish date, budget variance and scope changes in a dashboard that applies to both agile and traditional projects. With this information, executives are able to quickly identify projects that require focus or intervention, regardless of the project management methodology employed.

A three-minute demonstration of the integration between Daptiv and Rally Software is available on Daptiv's YouTube channel.

Daptiv's PPM framework includes processes for project intake and selection, project approval and initiation, and project and portfolio monitoring, along with templates, artifacts and metrics for the different methodologies used within an organization. The integration with Rally helps organizations embrace agile and lean development practices that increase the pace of innovation and improve product quality. Rally is the recognized leader in agile application lifecycle management (ALM) and currently supports more than 2,600 corporate customers, 94,000 projects and 170,000 users in 60 countries.
