Data Domain's DDX Array Series Receives Storage Magazine-SearchStorage.com's 'Products of the Year' Award

Data Domain's Deduplication Products Win for the Third Time, DDX Array Series Wins Bronze in Backup Hardware Category

SANTA CLARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 14, 2007 -- Data Domain, a leading provider of Enterprise Protection Storage systems for disk backup and network-based disaster recovery, today announced that Storage magazine-SearchStorage.com has selected the Data Domain DDX Array Series as a winner in the Backup Hardware Category for the 2006 Storage Products of the Year.

The annual awards were judged by an esteemed panel of judges, comprised of the Storage magazine-SearchStorage.com editorial staff, in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts, analysts and consultants. The nominees were evaluated on six key criteria, including innovation, performance, ease of integration into existing environments, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value.

Data Domain has now been selected as a recipient of Storage magazine's "Storage Products of the Year" award for a third time. This year it was for the DDX Array Series, which features Data Domain's third generation of deduplication technology and is aimed at the large scale data center market. Storage magazine judges were nearly unanimous in their praise of the DDX, awarding it high scores across the board and noting that "with inline deduplication and heterogeneous support, the economics of the DDX Array Series are very hard to beat."

Introduced in October of 2006, Data Domain's DDX Series was the industry's first data center-scale deduplicating protection storage array. Powered by the new Data Domain DD560 controller, a fully configured DDX array offers up to 6.4 terabytes per hour of sustained throughput and up to 15 petabytes of capacity for long-term online retention. Driven by Data Domain's Global Compression™ technology, the DDX Array Series established a new pricing benchmark by making disk backup solutions available for less than $0.35/GB.

DDX is Data Domain's third generation of inline deduplication protection storage. Like all Data Domain systems, the DDX Series is qualified with leading backup software vendors and easily integrates into the backup environment using NAS and/or Virtual Tape interfaces without any infrastructure change. Continuous recovery verification along with extra levels of data protection such as dual disk parity RAID (RAID 6) allow DDX to continuously detect and protect against data integrity issues, during storage of backup data and throughout the life cycle of the backup data.

"To yet again be recognized by the Storage magazine judging panel reinforces Data Domain's value proposition and its commitment to delivering the most advanced data protection innovations in the industry," said Frank Slootman, president and CEO of Data Domain. "Data Domain was the only vendor chosen in the backup hardware category this year that has been shipping deduplication products for three years and has over 750 dedupe users. Unlike brute-force disk approaches common to exclusively VTL solutions, Data Domain deduplicates backup data inline -- and at blazing speeds, so it has vastly better price/performance. DDX really is the first data center-scale disk-based backup and recovery storage solution available in the market."
