DataStax Continues Rapid Global Expansion -- Hires Senior Executive From SAP to Lead Worldwide Field Operations

John Schweitzer Joins DataStax to Scale Worldwide Sales and Services Organization That Currently Reaches 20 Companies in the Fortune 100

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwired - May 21, 2013) -  DataStax, the company that powers the apps that transform business, today announced it has hired John Schweitzer, one of the most experienced senior executives in the database and analytics markets, to serve as senior vice president of worldwide field operations.  As DataStax continues to expand its global operations, Schweitzer will play a critical role in scaling the company's global sales and services businesses with an emphasis on international expansion and growth in channels such as VARs and OEMs.

"Hiring a sales leader of John's caliber is a ringing endorsement of the entire NoSQL market and reinforces DataStax's leadership position in this space," said Billy Bosworth, CEO, DataStax. "John's breadth of experience, deep insight into the database and analytics markets, and proven ability to drive innovation and operational excellence will prove essential during this critical stage of our growth."

"DataStax is disrupting one of the largest industries in the world, the database market, because Oracle cannot power the real-time line of business applications that companies need to drive competitive advantage," said Schweitzer. "I joined DataStax because we offer a differentiated product in a white-hot growth industry with a long list of high-profile customers, backed by a strong management team and experienced investors."

Schweitzer joins DataStax from SAP where he led the company's multi-billion dollar analytics business. He drove significant global growth and dramatically increased the number one market share position. In this role he directed the global strategy, go-to-market, operations, business relationships, customer success and sales teams. He also led the successful launch of SAP's HANA database in North America, one of the fastest-growing database software solutions in recent history. Prior to SAP, Schweitzer held senior leadership roles at Oracle and Hyperion, where he led global growth strategies in the U.S. and Europe.

DataStax is experiencing tremendous growth, having increased its customer roster tenfold over the past two years. DataStax's enterprise-grade database platform, based on Apache Cassandra, powers mission-critical applications for companies such as Netflix, eBay, Thomson Reuters, Adobe and Constant Contact. In October 2012, DataStax completed a $25 million C round of funding led by Meritech Capital Partners, with participation from existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners and Crosslink Capital. The company also recently opened its European subsidiary to increase its existing business and address significant growth opportunities in the region.
