Dating Study Reveals That Singletons Spend GBP 3 Billion Per Year Looking For Their Soul Mate

KENT, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 6, 2012) - British singletons that are looking for love spend more than £3 billion each year, according to a recent survey. Findings by dating website Match.com show that Brits collectively splurge billions of pounds every year trying to find their soul mate.

The study revealed that the total number of dates that occur in the UK every year is 37 million, with on average £46 being spent each time. It found that the most amount of money an individual expends when dating in the whole year is on food and drink as £413.60 goes towards entertainment, restaurants and bars. The overall national spend per year on new clothing is £864 million.

As Brits strive to impress the perfect partner, the study of 2,000 single adults revealed that £377 million is spent nationally on cosmetics over 12 months with a further £324 million on hairdressers. This equates per person to £119.62 on makeup and £103 on getting hair done to look their best.

What is more, each individual spends £133.57 on transport for getting to and from the date; and each Brit splashes out £63.36 on purchasing gifts to show how much they care.

According to the Daily Mail article, a spokesperson from the Centre of Economic Business Research, which produced the report on behalf of the dating site, said: "The research shows that dating provides a multi-billion pound windfall for the UK, directly benefiting a range of industries like retail, food & drink and entertainment."
