David Lanphear Named President of Envision Financial

First West Credit Union is pleased to announce that David Lanphear has been appointed to president of its Envision Financial division effective January 1, 2016. In this role, Lanphear will provide leadership to the credit union's lines of business in the Envision Financial region. This leadership change follows on the appointment of Shelley Besse to the role of chief operating officer of First West, a new position within the credit union.

Lanphear has 18 years of financial services experience and has held a number of progressively senior positions during his career including assistant vice-president, Investment Services; assistant vice-president, Insurance Services and vice-president, Commercial Banking and Insurance. Lanphear is currently vice-president, Banking and Insurance Services where he has been responsible for the financial performance, leadership and overall strategic direction of Envision Financial's banking and insurance teams.

Over the years, Lanphear has developed strong leadership skills and encourages up and coming leaders to make a point of doing the same. "It's important that you clearly define the goals for your team and explain how you plan to get there," says Lanphear. "To be a successful leader, you need to advocate on behalf of your team-remove barriers that are holding them back from achieving their goals and make sure that they feel valued and important."

Lanphear has led many teams during his career and all have one thing in common: they have consistently scored high in all areas of employee engagement while delivering top level performance. As he explains, "People want to have a say, they want to feel heard and they want to feel like their contributions matter. Involve your teams in the decisions that affect them and make sure to celebrate successes along the way."
