Davis Instruments Introduces New Vantage Vue Wireless Weather Station

HAYWARD, CA--(Marketwire - September 8, 2009) - Davis Instruments introduces the newest addition to its line of weather stations with the new Vantage Vue™ weather station. Vantage Vue features Davis' legendary reliability, accuracy and ruggedness in a station that is more affordable and easier to install than ever.

Vantage Vue uses frequency-hopping radio spectrum technology to wirelessly send data up to 1,000 feet (300 m) and provides weather updates from the outdoor integrated sensor suite to the indoor console every 2 1/2 seconds. The suggested retail price for the entire station is $395.

"The introduction of Vantage Vue draws on 20 years of weather station experience and three years of intense development," said Russ Heilig, Vice President of Business Development, for Davis Instruments. "Vantage Vue offers many of the features of our professionally-oriented Vantage Pro2™ but in a smaller form factor that takes just minutes to set up."

"We leveraged our experience to outshine any other comparable station on the market," added Heilig. "With Vantage Vue's new Weather Center feature and the comparative weather data the station provides, users can instantly become neighborhood meteorologists. They're armed with detailed information that is specific to their 'microclimate,' a.k.a. their backyard. It's a superior product for the home weather consumer," he concluded.

The Vantage Vue weather station has two components: The sleekly designed integrated sensor suite, also known as the ISS, and the data-receiving console. The ISS collects weather data such as outdoor temperature, rainfall, rain rate, wind speed and direction, and wirelessly transmits its data to the console, which displays the data.

Davis Instruments' weather stations are known for their durability. To ensure product longevity, the ISS is cyclic corrosion tested to simulate harsh environments such as heat, humidity and seaside conditions. The testing is overseen by Davis' team of engineers at their California headquarters. In addition, Vantage Vue's outdoor sensor electronics are sealed for added protection from the elements.

The ISS is energized by a solar panel and stored energy at night, making it an ideal product or gift for the "green" consumer.

To make viewing the data easier, Davis designed the Vantage Vue console with an easy-to-read, 3" x 4 3/8" (7.6 cm x 8.5 cm) screen and a glow-in-the-dark keypad for night viewing. A data collecting device in its own right, the console collects data for indoor temperature, humidity and barometric pressure.

With the console's Weather Center feature, Vantage Vue provides extensive additional information for each weather variable. These include daily highs and lows, temperature changes by the hour, barometric changes and astronomical data such as meteor showers. Consumers may also purchase additional consoles besides the main console that comes with the station, to place in their den, bedroom or backyard.

Consumers who would like a more sophisticated weather system may be interested in Davis Instruments' flagship weather station, the Vantage Pro2, which sells for $595 and offers more advanced capabilities. In addition, the Vantage Vue station is radio-compatible with the Vantage Pro2. Vantage Pro2 owners may purchase a Vantage Vue sensor suite or console and they will seamlessly work together. Suggested retail price for a separate Vantage Vue integrated sensor suite is $225 and $195 for each additional console.

Vantage Vue stations also work with Davis Instruments' WeatherLink® weather software. WeatherLink allows users to transfer their weather data to a PC for additional analysis and graphing. One version, WeatherLinkIP™, even creates a personal weather website for their station and connects them to a global community of Davis weather station customers at
