Davis LLP Boosts Presence in Alberta With 7 New Associates

EDMONTON, ALBERTA and CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 6, 2012) - In a significant boost to its Calgary and Edmonton offices, Davis LLP welcomes seven new associates to further expand the firm's capabilities in Alberta. Clients will benefit from the added strength in over 10 practice areas, including securities & corporate finance, corporate and commercial law, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation. The addition brings the number of lawyers close to 60 in the Calgary office and over 30 in Edmonton.

Laura advises clients on all aspects of employment law, including matters relating to wrongful dismissal, post-employment competition by former employees, human rights violations in the workplace, workplace privacy issues, compliance with employment standards, and executive compensation matters. Her practice also includes corporate litigation and estate planning.
Marek Lorenc
Associate, Calgary
Marek has a general corporate and commercial law practice, with particular emphasis on securities law, corporate finance, private equity, and mergers and acquisitions. He advises both public and private issuers on a variety of business matters with a focus on debt and equity financings as well as mergers and acquisitions. He also assists clients with corporate governance and continuous disclosure obligations.
Matthew Pollock
Associate, Calgary
Matthew has assisted public and private companies with a wide range of business matters, including equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory matters and continuous disclosure. He has also assisted not-for-profit organizations with corporate and regulatory matters.
Prior to working with Davis, Matthew worked for several years in Tokyo with one of the largest full-service law firms in Japan, where he assisted Japanese lawyers on cross-border matters and drafting international contracts.
Lee Axford

Lee has experience in commercial transactions, ranging from commercial real estate sales to asset purchase/sale transactions. He works on matters related to climate change and environmental law within a corporate/commercial context, including green-technology investment, carbon-trading transactions and provincial and federal climate-change regulatory frameworks. Lee also has experience working on matters related to bankruptcy and insolvency law.
Melissa Mitchell
Associate, Edmonton
Melissa has experience in commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and asset-purchase transactions. In particular, she works on shareholder agreements, acquisitions and dispositions of shares, and corporate reorganizations.
Melissa also has experience working on matters related to construction law, as well as pension and benefits.
Ameen Owaisi

Ameen has experience in commercial real estate matters including construction, leasing and financing, and in drafting various types of commercial and corporate agreements. He works with clients from various industries, including oil & gas, construction as well as arms' length provincial corporations.
Patrick Stratton
Associate, Edmonton
Patrick represents clients in proceedings in front of the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench and the Alberta Provincial Court. His practice also includes assisting senior counsel with commercial litigation matters, professional regulatory issues, administrative proceedings in front of the Alberta Environmental Appeals Board, and advising employers on labour, employment and human rights law issues.
