Davis LLP Strengthens Energy Practice With the Addition of 8 Lawyers


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 29, 2012) - Davis LLP strengthens its energy practice with the addition of eight new lawyers in its Calgary office. This latest addition will bring the office up over 50 lawyers covering more than 25 practice areas, including energy, securities & corporate finance, corporate and commercial law, mergers & acquisitions, dispute resolution, and international business transactions. This expansion is another indication of the firm's commitment to providing comprehensive services to clients across Canada.

Six of the new lawyers join Davis LLP from a local boutique firm with an impressive client base and extensive experience in the oil & gas sector. Brian Davison, Q.C.

Brian has many years of involvement with the service sector of the petroleum industry, as well as experience in employment, receivership, bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Brian has been recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of Insolvency and Financial Restructuring Debtors Rights. Brian has received a BV Distinguished Peer Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Derek Worden

Derek is a commercial lawyer with 35 years of experience in corporate and commercial transactions and corporate finance. Having worked closely with a large oil and gas service company and its international affiliates, Derek's experience includes the establishment and negotiation of ongoing activities of joint venture initiatives as well as project financing with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Finance Corporation. Derek has received a BV Distinguished Peer Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Thomas Benson

Tom has 30 years of experience in the oil and gas, corporate, commercial and civil litigation areas practicing both in a corporate environment and in private legal practice. Tom was employed by the Alberta and Southern Alberta Natural Gas organizations from 1980 until 1994 where he gained an in-depth knowledge of natural gas marketing, extraction and pipeline matters while heading up the corporate legal function for both companies.

Peter Jull, Q.C.

Peter practices in the areas of commercial and banking litigation. Peter has extensive experience in litigation, insolvency and restructuring, receivership, security enforcement and major debt reorganization matters. Peter was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1999.

Ryana Mather

Ryana's practice focuses on corporate/ commercial law with an emphasis on general commercial transactions, and general corporate structure, governance and related business services including corporate and not for profit organizations. She has facilitated a broad range of commercial transactions including acquisitions, mergers, and reorganizations.

Ann Buckingham

Ann's practice is focused on bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring, as well as wills, estates & trusts. Over the years, Ann has worked extensively on insolvency matters, acting as counsel for both debtors and creditors. Ann is experienced both in formal procedures under various insolvency and restructuring legislation, as well as in working with clients to create solutions addressing their particular needs.

Melissa Tennison

Melissa has extensive experience in various general litigation matters with a focus on corporate commercial disputes. She has appeared before all levels of Court in the Province of Alberta.

Chris Peng

Chris practices in the areas of securities & corporate finance. He has experience in a wide range of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, private placements and corporate reorganizations.
