Davis LLP Welcomes Eight Lawyers to the Partnership

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Dec. 30, 2014) - Davis LLP is starting off 2015 with eight new partners from across Canada. The firm is pleased to announce that Alexandra Bochinski, Jeff Horswill, Kerri Howard, Andrew Lord, Mélanie Martel, Michael Styczen, P.Eng, Brian Tsuji, and Adrienne Woodyard will join the partnership, effective January 1, 2015.

Alexandra Bochinski (Edmonton) Alexandra is a member of the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. She has extensive experience in a wide variety of complex commercial disputes and has appeared at all levels of court in Alberta. Alexandra has experience in environmental law, administrative law, builders' liens issues, contractual disputes, employment law and pension law issues. She acts for a number of clients including construction and oil and gas companies.

Jeff Horswill (Vancouver) Jeff has a strong litigation practice focused on the resolution of complex disputes. Jeff acts most commonly in the areas of commercial litigation and dispute resolution; product liability actions; and disputes involving international law. He also has experience in both international and domestic public law matters including investor-state arbitrations, constitutional matters, Aboriginal rights, competition law, and cases in the public eye that include a public relations component. Jeff has represented clients before all levels of British Columbia courts, the Federal Court, formal and informal mediations, and ad hoc arbitrations conducted under the UNCITRAL Rules.

Kerri Howard (Calgary) Kerri's practice is focused on corporate/commercial, oil & gas and energy, mergers and acquisitions and structured finance and derivative transactions. Her clients include energy producers, midstream energy companies, oil & gas service companies, trading groups and investment funds. Her extensive experience in this area involves assisting clients in large and small corporate/commercial, oil & gas and energy-related transactions, including advising on merger, acquisition and disposition transactions, joint venture and partnership arrangements, reorganizations and restructurings. Kerri's energy experience includes transactions involving both Canadian and international entities and assets.

Andrew Lord (Toronto) Andrew practises corporate/commercial law. With a background in engineering and business consulting, Andrew provides legal advice tailored to his clients' technical and business needs. He regularly advises clients on a variety of corporate matters, including M&A transactions, financings, corporate governance, and complex commercial agreements. Andrew works with domestic and international clients in a wide range of industries including power generation, IT, telecommunications, industrial automation, marketing, automotive, and education. He has extensive experience in Ontario's electricity market, in particular solar, wind and biomass projects, utility rate making, and electricity conservation incentives.

Mélanie Martel (Montréal) Mélanie is a respected litigator in the areas of commercial and civil law and bankruptcy and insolvency. She represents a broad range of clients before all levels of court, but also acts to prevent, avoid and settle litigations. She handles complex cases and has extensive experience in specialized areas such as latent defects, construction law, defamation, contractual disputes, international distribution and professional, agricultural and product liability. She also currently teaches Contract Law at the University of Sherbrooke and Obligation and Drafting of Proceedings at the Québec Bar Training School (Montréal).

Michael Styczen, P.Eng (Calgary) Michael practises corporate and commercial law including construction and procurement law, in the energy sector. He advises clients regarding developments in both British Columbia and Alberta, as well as on foreign (particularly Japanese) investment in Canada. Prior to his legal career, Michael worked as an engineer in the electricity and petroleum refining industries. He has led or assisted on a large number of significant domestic and international energy transactions, including the purchase, sale and development of shale gas, LNG, oil sands and conventional oil and gas assets, pipelines, and electricity and clean electricity generation assets.

Brian Tsuji (Vancouver) Brian heads the firm's Immigration Group. He has over 30 years of experience advising clients regarding: work visas and business visitor visas; provincial nominee program applications; immigration visas; investor visas and business immigration matters including representing individuals as well as local, national, and international corporations and organizations. Brian has represented clients from more than 50 countries.

Adrienne Woodyard (Toronto) Adrienne specializes in tax, with a focus on tax dispute resolution and planning / compliance. She provides focused, practical advice to clients facing audits by the Canada Revenue Agency and regularly appears on their behalf in the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. She has extensive knowledge of income tax, GST / HST and excise tax matters, and advises clients on a wide variety of domestic and cross-border tax issues as well as estate and wealth preservation planning strategies. Her clients include multinational corporations seeking to establish operations in Canada, privately held and owner-operated enterprises, estates and trusts, entrepreneurs and executives.
