Daxor Corporation's Idant Laboratories Subsidiary Earns American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) Accreditation

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - September 23, 2010) -  Idant Laboratories -- a subsidiary of Daxor Corporation (NYSE Amex: DXR) -- has been granted accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) for the collection, freezing and storage of one's own blood, according to its Laboratory Director, Dr. Robert Rosenthal. Idant Laboratories is a pioneer in blood banking, and was the first laboratory registered to provide long-term self-storage of blood to the public. Using FDA approved methods, Idant Laboratories can store an individuals' frozen red blood cells for up to ten years. Such frozen blood is then available for that individual's future use, such as during a scheduled, elective surgery or in an emergency. By storing their own blood for future use, patients may avoid many of the risks commonly associated with blood transfusions, including acquired infections.

Accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained AABB auditors who determine whether each facility meets technical and administrative proficiency standards set by the AABB. By successfully meeting these requirements, Idant Laboratories joins similar facilities located throughout the United States and around the world that have earned AABB accreditation. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have found that the AABB accreditation process provides reasonable assurance that the facilities accredited by it meet or exceed the conditions required by federal law and regulations.

"The AABB's accreditation procedures are strictly voluntary," said Dr. Robert Rosenthal, Director of Idant Laboratories. "Idant sought AABB accreditation because it will promote a level of professional and technical expertise and excellence that contributes to quality performance and patient safety."

Idant Laboratories was established in 1970 as a public corporation and is a subsidiary of Scientific Medical Systems. Scientific Medical Systems is in turn a subsidiary of the Daxor Corporation, a public company listed on the American Stock Exchange.
