DE-CIX Apollon Migration Completed

World's Largest Internet Exchange Completes Advanced Technology Upgrade and Migration of Almost 600 Customers

FRANKFURT, GERMANY--(Marketwired - Dec 17, 2013) - DE-CIX, the world's leading Internet exchange operator headquartered in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), announces today the completion of final technology upgrades to its flagship DE-CIX Apollon platform, including the successful migration of all customers to the upgraded technology. The company also proudly announces Germany-based Hetzner Online as the first 100G customer on the DE-CIX Apollon platform.

Now fully installed according to its original design, DE-CIX Apollon consists of four fully implemented Supernodes and six edge nodes spread across the Frankfurt metro, with the platform's deployment having begun in April 2013. In ten scheduled maintenance windows, 580 customers with a total of 928 ports were successfully migrated to the new DE-CIX Apollon platform.

DE-CIX Apollon uses cutting-edge technology from ADVA Optical Networking and Alcatel-Lucent. With this innovative platform now fully installed, DE-CIX Apollon serves as an Internet exchange, with access speeds that include up to multiple 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports. In 2014, DE-CIX will announce additional Ethernet-based interconnection options that its Apollon infrastructure will provide.

Hetzner Online, an existing DE-CIX customer, is the first to upgrade its service portfolio on the DE-CIX Apollon platform. A customer since 2005, Hetzner had been using multiple 10GE ports on the DE-CIX platform to deliver its webhosting and data center services. Vigilant of the rapidly growing data traffic rates on its network, Hetzner ordered two 100G ports on the new DE-CIX Apollon platform to remain ahead of traffic growth and continue to offer superior service to its customers.

"With our new 100G connection and DE-CIX's top-notch service, we are in a position to easily, quickly and cost-effectively increase capacity for our customers' traffic any time," says Martin Hetzner, CEO of Hetzner Online. "In this way, we offer our customers the best performance, and we are also well-equipped for continued domestic and international growth."

"We're proud to announce that DE-CIX Apollon is now ready for service," confirmed Harald A. Summa, CEO for DE-CIX. "A huge congratulations goes out to our engineering and support teams for their careful planning and strong execution of this complex process. Our goal was always to maximize efficiency and minimize disruptions for our customers, and we've been successful. DE-CIX Apollon is the result of the innovation, vision and excellence that we bring to all aspects of our work. We know global Internet traffic will continue to grow and are confident that the DE-CIX Apollon platform will capably handle traffic for all our customers."
