DealScience500 Index Forecasts the Coupon Climate

Leader in Shopping Intelligence Ranks Deal Activity From Top Retailers to Help Consumers Learn & Save

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 9, 2014) - With an abundance of offers and coupon sites, today's consumers are inundated with deals, many of which are unpredictable and unreliable. Today, DealScience.com, the leading provider of shopping intelligence that helps consumers save, is launching a groundbreaking index that evaluates deal activity from the most popular e-commerce sites.

Ranking nearly 500 brands, from big box retailers to popular online boutiques, the DealScience500 serves as a historical and current baseline of ongoing activity for consumers and researchers to leverage. Shoppers may now learn what times of the year are the best time to shop for specific categories, so they can plan purchases in advance. The shopping intelligence can also be broken down into 23 categories ranging from Apparel to Travel.

"Because of the depth of our data, we're providing users with an insider look at when and how brands are offering deals, so they are armed with more information before they buy," said Cory O'Daniel, co-founder & CTO of DealScience.com. "This index is the first-time consumers have real-time insight about online deals, making it a very powerful tool for shoppers and retailers alike."

The DealScience500 showcases when there are spikes in activity, representing an increase in offers from the 500 most active brands -- it also indicates when there is a deal dip among popular retailers.

Key findings from the DealScience500 include:

  • Kohl's, Personalization Mall, and Hotels.com are the top three retailers with the most reliable coupons -- Honest.com ranks fourth. And The Gap, Sears and Macy's issue coupons most frequently.

  • Wednesday is still the best day to buy. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are the days when the most coupons are published -- and the average coupon expires 3-7 days after it is published. For those reasons, shopping on Wednesday gives consumers the most sale options without worrying about missing a good deal that has expired.

  • 1-800 Contacts, Travelocity and Newegg are the retailers with the biggest increase in deal activity since January, while LoveSac, Addition Elle and Sunglass Hut have had the biggest drop in coupons since the first of the year.

  • 6pm.com and Gilt have recently gained traction and are increasingly in popularity thanks to their targeted deals.

"At Build.com the customer always comes first, and having a great partnership with DealScience.com helps our customers find the best deals everyday," said Greg Marskey, affiliate marketing manager at Build.com, a leading home improvement site and top 100 online retailer.

DealScience.com partners with retailers and leading deal sites to aggregate the best offers, rank their reliability and track trends. The company also takes it one step further with 35-thousand store-specific shopping tips from more than 10,500 retailers and counting.
