Death of an Inmate at Drumheller Institution-Medium Security Unit


DRUMHELLER, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Jan. 28, 2015) - Correctional Service Canada

On January 28, 2015, Martin Pinkus, an inmate from the medium security unit at Drumheller Institution was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Drumheller Health Centre where he was pronounced dead at 12:04 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Pinkus, 47 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault and Assault Causing Bodily Harm since December 20, 1999.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
