Death of an Inmate at Drummond Institution


LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 2, 2014) - Correctional Service Canada

On August 30, 2014, Gérald Tougas, an inmate at Drummond Institution, was found unresponsive in the outdoor yard at Drummond Institution.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Ste-Croix Hospital in Drummondville where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 PM.

At the time of his death, Mr. Tougas, 64 years old, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for first degree murder since November 15, 1988.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
