Death of an Inmate at Edmonton Institution


EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Sept. 27, 2013) - On September 26, 2013, Ryan Holteen, an inmate at Edmonton Institution was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.

At the time of his death, Mr. Holteen, 32 years old, had been serving a sentence of 4 years, 2 months for Disguise with Intent, Break Enter and Commit, Robbery - Use Firearm. His sentence commenced on August 28, 2013.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
