Death of an Inmate at Federal Training Centre-Multi-Level Security Unit

On October 3, 2014, Lionel Gauthier, an inmate at the Federal Training Centre died. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Sainte-Agathe.

At the time of his death, Mr. Gauthier, 72 years old, had been serving a sentence of 9 years for possession for purpose of traffic, traffic, and commission of offence for the benefit of a criminal organisation since May 28, 2009.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
