Death of an Inmate at La Macaza Institution


LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Nov. 12, 2014) - On November 7, 2014, Tommy Gagné, an inmate at La Macaza Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Rivière-Rouge CSSS Antoine-Labelle and then to the Sacré-Cœur hospital in Montreal where he was pronounced dead on November 11, 2014 at 12:45 a.m.

At the time of his death, Mr Gagné, 28 years old, had been serving a life sentence since September 5th, 2007 for second degree murder, sequestration and robbery.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
