Death of an inmate at Port-Cartier Institution

LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Jan. 29, 2015) - Correctional Service Canada

On January 29^th, 2015 Sylvain Hamel, an inmate at Port-Cartier Institution, died at l'Enfant-Jésus Hospital in Quebec City.

At the time of his death, Mr. Hamel, 44 years old, had been serving a second sentence of 8 years since June 25^th, 2008 for robbery and escape from lawful custody.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
