Death of an Inmate at Regional Psychiatric Centre

On October 7, 2015, Darrell Luke Merasty, an inmate at the Regional Psychiatric Centre died at the institutional hospital in Saskatoon.

At the time of his death, Mr. Merasty, 28 years old, had been serving a 5 year, 7 month 26 day sentence since August 20, 2014 for Assault with a Weapon, Robbery, Break Enter and Commit, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Harm, Disguise with Intent, Assault - Use of Force, Forcible Confinement, Possession of a Weapon For A Dangerous Purpose, Fail to Comply with Undertaking/Recognizance, and Fail to Attend Court.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
