Death of an inmate at Saskatchewan Penitentiary


PRINCE ALBERT, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - June 7, 2017) - Correctional Service Canada

On June 7, 2017, Christopher Andrew Van Camp, an inmate from Saskatchewan Penitentiary died while in our custody.

Emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.

At the time of his death, Mr. Van Camp, 37 years old, had been serving a sentence of 5 years, 5 months and 12 days since June 6, 2012 for Armed Robbery, Fraud, Break, Enter and Commit Theft, Break and Enter with Intent, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Disobey An Order of the Court, Failure to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking or Recognizance.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
