Death of an Inmate at Saskatchewan Penitentiary - Medium Security Unit


PRINCE ALBERT, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - July 20, 2016) - Correctional Service Canada

On July 19, 2016, Joseph Vincent Manitopyes, an inmate from the medium security unit at Saskatchewan Penitentiary was found unresponsive in his cell.

The offender was taken to the Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:35 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr, Joseph Vincent Manitopyes, aged 31 years old, had been serving a sentence of 5 years, 7 months, since June 20, 2014, for, Attempted Robbery, Disguise with Intent X 4, Robbery X 4 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
