Death of an Inmate at Stony Mountain Institution


WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - Nov. 25, 2013) - On November 23, 2013 Devon Earl Sampson, an inmate at Stony Mountain Institution was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.

At the time of his death, Mr. Sampson, 34 years old, had been serving a sentence of 5 years 6 months and for Robbery and Obstruct a Public/Peace Officer since December 14, 2011.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
