Death of an Inmate at Stony Mountain Institution


STONY MOUNTAIN, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - Dec. 15, 2014) - Correctional Service Canada

On December 13, 2014, Lionel Joseph Tavares, an inmate at Stony Mountain Institution was found unresponsive in a living unit.

The offender was taken to Seven Oaks Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:47 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Tavares, 56 years old, had been serving, since June 2, 2010, a sentence of five years, seven months for break and enter and possession of property obtained by crime.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
