Death of an Inmate from Cowansville Institution


LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 3, 2013) - On August 30, 2013, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Mohammed Youssef Alaoui, an inmate from Cowansville Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell. Institutional staff immediately performed CPR and paramedics were called.

The inmate was taken to the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 4:15 p.m..

At the time of his death, Mr. Alaoui, 46, was serving an indeterminate sentence for first degree murder. His sentence had commenced on February 25, 2010.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
