Death of an Inmate From the Port-Cartier Institution


PORT-CARTIER, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 30, 2011) - On September 24, 2011, Michel Verreault, an inmate from the Port-Cartier Institution, a maximum security federal penitentiary in Port-Cartier, died of apparent natural causes. At the time of his death, M. Verreault was at the institutional Health Care Centre of the Archambault Institution in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.

Michel Verreault, 63, was serving a life sentence for first degree murder, arson, burglary and other offences.His current sentence began June 21, 2001. Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
