Death of Inmate at Cowansville Institution


COWANSVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 30, 2012) - On the morning of January 30, 2012, inmate Jean Miville Bois from Cowansville Institution, a medium security institution located in Cowansville, was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional officers immediately performed CPR and paramedics were called.

The inmate was taken to the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:30 a.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Bois, 56 years old, was serving a third federal sentence of seven years and two months for two counts of armed robbery, two counts of disguise with intent, forcible confinement and, possession of substance for the purpose of trafficking. His sentence had commenced on May 26, 2010.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
