Death of Inmate at Donnacona Institution


DONNACONA, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - July 5, 2012) - On July 5, 2012, at approximately 8:40 a.m., inmate Raymond Sigouin, from Donnacona Institution, a maximum security institution, was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional Officers and medical staff immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called.

The inmate was taken to the Centre hospitalier de l'Enfant-Jésus, where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 a.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Sigouin, 44 years old, was serving a 2-year and 8-month sentence for possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon. His sentence had commenced on March 2, 2010.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
