Death of Inmate at Leclerc Institution


LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 25, 2012) - On May 22, 2012, inmate Karl Heinz Frankl from Leclerc Institution was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional officers immediately performed CPR and paramedics were called.

The inmate was taken to the Cité de la Santé Hospital where he was pronounced dead on May 24, 2012, at approximately 7 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Frankl, 69, was serving a life sentence for non capital murder. His sentence had commenced on October 31, 1966.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
