Death of Inmate at Stony Mountain Institution

STONY MOUNTAIN, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - May 26, 2012) - On May 25, 2012, inmate Calvin Reginald Godfrey from Stony Mountain Institution was found unresponsive. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called.

Ambulance services arrived at the institution, but were unable to revive the offender.

At the time of his death, Mr. Godfrey, 56, was serving an indeterminate sentence for First Degree Murder. His sentence had commenced on July 20, 1982.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
