Dec. 20 and 21 Update on Tickets and Activities Around the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 20, 2008) - The host organizing committee for the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship outlined the following updates on ticket availability and activities around the event.

TICKETS

The Tickets for Kids program has now received and distributed more than 4,000 tickets. Ticket donations are being accepted until Monday, Dec. 22. They can be dropped off or sent to: Tickets for Kids, 1000 Palladium Drive, Kanata, Ont., K2V 1A5.

Melnyk Family Skate for Kids - For the fifth consecutive year, Ottawa Senators owner and host organizing committee chair, Eugene Melnyk, and his family will host more than 100 children, as selected by Child and Youth Friendly Ottawa (CAYFO), at SBP Arena on Sunday, Dec. 21, from 10:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The Melnyks, along with Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, Max Keeping, Spartacat, and members of the Ottawa Senators alumni, will present each participant with early Christmas presents, including a Senators jersey, a helmet, and a brand new pair of skates ( all donated by the Melnyk family. This year, in celebration of the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, the Melnyks are also donating four game tickets to each child and their family.

TEAM SCHEDULES FOR DEC. 20-21 (times subject to change)

Canada - The Canadian squad will be in Orangeville, Ont., until Dec. 23. Team Canada media contact is Andre Brin, 403-540-8444 or abrin@hockeycanada.ca. The team practises today at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. Its next pre-competition game is Sunday, Dec. 21, against Finland at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont.

Czech Republic - The Czechs practised today from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the PowerAde Centre in Brampton, Ont. They will face Slovakia in a pre-competition meeting on Sunday, Dec. 21, at The Aud in Kitchener, Ont.

Finland -The Finnish squad will practise in Barrie until Dec. 23. Finland takes on Canada in its first pre-competition game on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont.

Germany - The German will practise at the Robert-Guertin Arena in Gatineau, Que., until Dec. 23, They will face Latvia in its only pre-competition game on Monday, Dec. 22, at the Brockville Memorial Centre in Brockville, Ont.

Kazakhstan - The team will practise at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ont., until Dec. 23. Its first of two pre-competition games is Sunday, Dec. 21, against Russia at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ont.

Latvia - The Latvian squad will be located at the Memorial Centre in Brockville, Ont., from Dec. 19 to 23. Latvia and Team USA play in a pre-competition game Sunday, Dec. 21, at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ont.

Russia - The bronze medalists from 2008 will practise at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ont., until Dec. 23. Their first pre-competition game is against Kazakhstan on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ont.

Slovakia - The Slovaks will be based at The Aud in Kitchener, Ont., until Dec. 23. They will face the Czech Republic in a pre-competition meeting on Sunday, Dec. 21, at The Aud in Kitchener, Ont.

Sweden - Last year's silver-medal-winning squad is practising at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont., until Dec. 23. They are on the ice today from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

United States - Team USA, who finished fourth in 2008, arrives at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ont., on Sunday, Dec. 21 for practices and pre-competition games. The Americans play two pre-competition games at the K-Rock Centre, meeting Latvia on Sunday, Dec. 21, and Russia on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
