Deepwell Energy Services Trust Appoints Jay Simmons, Chairman of the Board, as Chief Executive Officer of the Operating Company

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2009) -


Deepwell Energy Services Trust (TSX:DWL.UN) ("Deepwell" or the "Trust") announced today that it has appointed Jay B. Simmons as Chief Executive Officer of Deepwell Energy Services Ltd. ("DWL Ltd."), the operating company for the assets of the Trust. Mr. Simmons is currently the chairman of DWL Ltd. and a trustee of the Trust.

Mr. Simmons has extensive experience in helping to create and grow entrepreneurially-oriented energy companies both in Canada and the United States through his family holding company, Simmons Financial Holdings Corp. The holding company was one of the original investors in the predecessor company to Deepwell. The holding company also holds interests in a number of privately-held companies including ones involved in water treatment technology, power generation, international drilling and services and retail electric marketing in Texas. Mr. Simmons served in executive-level and director positions with several oil and gas and service businesses and power generation enterprises. He also has restructuring and advisory services experience with a global chartered accounting firm. Mr. Simmons holds a chartered accountant designation and is a graduate of Dalhousie University.

Mr. Simmons succeeds Robert (Bob) Ritchie who has elected to pursue other interests.

Deepwell Energy Services Trust is a Calgary, Alberta-based income trust focused exclusively on providing waste treatment and disposal services to the oil and natural gas industry in western Canada.
