Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Selects Digital Lightwave Network Impairment Observer Solution

CLEARWATER, FL--(Marketwire - Apr 20, 2011) - Digital Lightwave, Inc. today announced that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has purchased the Network Impairment Observer (NIO) solution for the monitoring and testing of their international transport network.

DISA uses the Digital Lightwave Network Information Computer (NIC) portable test instruments as their predominant transport network testing solution, including SONET/SDH, OTN, Ethernet, DS3, DS1 and serial port testing. The addition of NIO software enables any operator to remotely configure the test sets and monitor the status of tests from a central location, leveraging their investment in NIC products.

The powerful combination of NIC hardware and NIO software enables network operators to run tests and monitor network conditions across multiple layers, multiple devices and network domains -- for the first time even extending visibility of network performance out to the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). The ability to drill down to any layer enables the operator to quickly isolate the root causes of network impairments, analyzing the type and source of network issues, thereby reducing Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) and cost. Operators can set service thresholds so that network problems are reported by the NIO immediately, leading to even faster resolution.

"The NIO software provides monitoring and analysis capabilities right across the network," said Tom Newhart, Vice President of Sales. "Operators can configure the exact network conditions to monitor and automatically report when required service thresholds are crossed. MTTR can be reduced by using the on-site NIC hardware to remotely perform testing as soon as any events are reported without having to deploy troubleshooting teams to the field."

The NIO solution adds a whole new dimension of utility and cost savings to Digital Lightwave's industry-leading line of test instruments. NIO costs are recouped very quickly through reductions in mean time to repair and deployment of staff to site.
