Defensive End Luis Castillo and National Honey Board Host Holiday Shopping Event for Kids

The National Honey Board Offered 50 Homeless, Abused or Neglected Children From the Polinsky Children's Center the Opportunity to Dine and Shop for Their Holiday Presents With Their Favorite Sports Heroes From the San Diego Chargers

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - December 18, 2007) - 50 children from the Polinsky Foundation could not believe their eyes: not only was the Chargers' defense, Luis Castillo, sitting next to them, but their excitement grew as 25 more SD Chargers players stepped into the tent where the private event was taking place. 'Shop with a Charger,' an annual event hosted by Luis Castillo, gives underprivileged children the opportunity to share a meal with their favorite football players and to go on a private shopping spree where they can choose holiday gifts. Among this year's main sponsor was the National Honey Board; the non-profit organization donated $10,000 to the Luis Castillo Foundation.

"It is an honor to participate in an activity that brings so much joy to children. The National Honey Board has been working with the Hispanic community for a long time. We are thrilled to be sponsoring this activity, a generous and noble cause created by such an admired and wholesome Hispanic athlete as Luis Castillo," said Jami Yanoski, Marketing Manager for the National Honey Board.

Through a Hawaiian-inspired menu, the children were able to talk and spend time with their sport heroes, asking the athletes questions about their lives and training, some of them wishing to follow in their footsteps.

"It was impressive to be part of this event with Luis and his friends," said seventeen-year-old John, one of the beneficiaries from the Children's Center.

Luis spoke with the press while shopping with his special guest. "I have been part of 'Shop with a Charger' for the past 8 years. I want to give special thanks to the National Honey Board, not only for their sponsorship in this occasion but for their support throughout the year. I have worked with them before and I know the Board's commitment to the Hispanic community in the United States. As a Hispanic, I am also grateful for that," said Castillo as he headed back to dinner and shopping with the kids.
