DEKALB(R) Brand's New 74-54 Roundup Ready (RR) Canola Hybrid Looking Impressive in Western Canadian Field Trials

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - Aug. 15, 2013) - Field results from Monsanto market development trials across Western Canada are confirming that the DEKALB® brand's new 74-54 RR canola hybrid is proving to be the highest yielding and most consistent canola hybrid DEKALB has ever introduced.

74-55 RR canola was registered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) this past spring and will be commercially available for sale to farmers for the first time this fall.

"We've had reports of consistent performance - good emergence, outstanding vigor and extensive pod development - across a broad range of western Canadian growing conditions," said Rob Ripley, DEKALB agronomy lead, Western Canada. "As the season progresses, we also expect to observe outstanding harvestability and yield performance."

With an "R" rating to blackleg and clubroot resistance built in, 74-54 RR features an ideal plant height and great standability, resulting in a plant that is generally easier to harvest.

"DEKALB brand's next-generation, clubroot-resistant breeding trait provides exceptional resistance to the most common current clubroot pathotypes, including 3,2,5,6, and 8," added Ripley.

Erin Romeo, DEKALB canola marketing manager, Western Canada, also noted that 74-54 RR has achieved consistently high yields by combining a strong disease package with efficient plant architecture. The result is a leading-edge canola hybrid adapted to the entire prairie region.

74-54 RR can be viewed at most of the 90+ DEKALB market development trials in 2013. Growers who want more information on this new DEKALB canola hybrid should contact their local territory account manager or call Monsanto's CustomCare® Line at 1-800-667-4944.
