Delegates unanimously approve bold action plan to 'Build a Better Ontario' at CUPE Ontario Convention

"Our is an inclusive vision that unites-rather than divides-Ontario," says CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 28, 2011) - Delegates have unanimously approved a bold action plan to 'Build a Better Ontario' at the 48th Annual Convention of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Ontario Division.

"Today, our members have shown the flip side of the vision articulated earlier this week by Tim Hudak's PC Party. Ours is an inclusive vision that unites—rather than divides—Ontario," said Fred Hahn, President of CUPE Ontario.

"While Tim Hudak's Tories offer corporate welfare handouts and a return to barbaric 'Deep South' chain gangs, our members have articulated an action plan that actually builds a better Ontario for all Ontarians," he added.

The action plan unanimously adopted by convention delegates commits CUPE to strengthening its connection to communities to build a better Ontario that is more equitable, grows Ontario's economy by investing in people and improving public services, and builds CUPE Members' capacity to get engaged and involved in the political process.

"Our members are our Union's greatest strength, and we will assist them when their communities are faced with threats of privatization, contracting out, cutbacks and other forms of right-wing demagoguery from the likes of Tim Hudak," said Hahn.

"That's a message every delegate will carry home with them and share with their neighbours and coworkers in advance of the Provincial election October 6".

CUPE Ontario is the Province's largest union, representing more than 240,000 women and men in every region of Ontario.
