Delphi Brings Advanced Planar Oxygen Sensor Technology to the Aftermarket

TROY, MI--(Marketwire - March 14, 2008) - Delphi (PINKSHEETS: DPHIQ) continues to pull ahead the latest technology in emission systems with the national introduction of planar technology to its replacement oxygen sensor line. Delphi continues to deliver one of the most durable and reliable components so that customers get sensors that are built to perform.

Delphi's planar sensors have been engineered and manufactured to meet the most stringent OE standards. With proven reliability, Delphi's sensors have successfully endured thousands of hours of more than 30 OE-demanded tests -- including two dozen durability tests -- to ensure that they last up to 15-years/150,000 miles under the toughest conditions.

Specifically, Delphi's "severe engine thermal stress test" blasts the sensors with 930°C exhaust gases for close to 1,000 hours. Another test heats the sensors with engine exhaust and then submerses them in cold water every five minutes -- over and over again -- for 1,000 hours. Testing like this helps to ensure that the sensors are built to last and perform.

Worn-out or contaminated sensors can cause engines to run too rich, burning up additional fuel and sending excess carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon and oxide of nitrogen emissions into the atmosphere. Replacing those sensors with new Delphi planar sensors delivers increased efficiency with the industry's fastest light-off time (LOT), putting the engine under fuel control operation quicker, which can help improve fuel economy and reduce harmful cold-start emissions by 40 to 50 percent.

Delphi's planar sensor sales have increased at a CAGR of over 100 percent for the last six years, making them among the world's fastest growing OE sensors. It is estimated that more than 60 percent of the vehicles rolling off assembly lines are equipped with planar technology. That number is expected to increase another 8 to 10 percent by 2010.

In addition to their proven high-quality performance, Delphi's planar oxygen sensors feature a patented protective sensor coating that leads the industry in contamination resistance to silicone, phosphorous and other fuel/oil additives. Also, a unique multi-layer construction, made of zirconia and alumina, makes Delphi's sensor elements stronger and more resilient to thermal shocks and engine vibration. In addition, Delphi's proprietary "dry to touch" anti-seize compound aids in faster, no mess installations.

To support the nationwide launch, this month Delphi debuts a new national advertising campaign featuring the theme: "Lab Tested. Road Ready." The theme serves as the foundation for what makes Delphi planar oxygen sensors better -- proven durability that meets the most stringent OE standards plus high-performance technology. The new campaign features print advertising in select automotive trade publications through May, an ad slick that can be downloaded and used in local advertising efforts, and a "Bonus Bucks" promotion program for parts specialists.
