Delphi Recognized for Value Creation by European Institute of Purchasing Management

GENEVA--(Marketwire - December 17, 2010) - Delphi Automotive has been recognized for value creation during the 2010 European Institute of Purchasing Management (EIPM) ceremony held on Dec. 16.

The EIPM award, "Best Value Contribution Practice in Purchasing," recognizes the procurement organization that has demonstrated best-in-class practices during a very selective and detailed process. Additional awards were presented for best training and education practice in purchasing, best people development, best corporate social responsibility and best supplier relationship management.

"During the award assessment, our global procurement team presented a common vision and proven processes to the judges," said Sidney Johnson, vice president, global supply management, Delphi. "It not only emphasized our achievements, but it sharpened our focus and highlighted areas for continuous improvement."

Delphi underwent a rigorous judging process which included self-assessment, practice evaluation and validation visits, concluding with a review by the award jury. Competing companies utilized the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) self-assessment framework for measuring the strengths and areas for improvement of an organization across all of its activities.

Some 87 companies began the award process, with 26 actually competing for the award. At the conclusion of the process, Delphi was among 8 finalists for the awards.

"EIPM has stated that excellence is not just having a multitude of best practices but using them in the most efficient and effective ways to meet or exceed the overall needs and expectation of stakeholders while delivering superior and sustainable levels of performance," said Johnson.

The EIPM was created in 1990 as a pioneer in purchasing training. Today it is recognized as a leading European Center for research, networking, education and action training in purchasing and supply chain management. The EIPM trains and educates yearly more than 4,000 purchasing professionals worldwide in 9 different languages in Europe and through its branches in the U.S., Brazil, South Africa, China and Japan.
