Delvinia's Innovation Nets Markham Coveted CAMA Award

E-Democracy solution a first in Canada

Delvinia Interactive, the pioneer and authority on digital customer experiences through interactive solutions, has helped its client, the Town of Markham, land the 2008 Willis Innovation Award from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) for their Click with Markham program.

Click with Markham is Canada's first municipal e-democracy solution to engage and obtain feedback from local residents. The goal was to encourage citizens to participate easily in a process to garner comment and perspective from residents on Markham's proposed strategic priorities and action plans.

"The response to the Click with Markham program was remarkable," said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. "More than 5,000 people participated, making it one of the most successful public engagement programs ever conducted in a community the size of Markham."

Delvinia played a large role with the Click with Markham initiative, Delvinia helped the Town of Markham get the program, developed in a six-week period, off the ground by creating and conceiving the digital experience components of the public consultation process. The main focus of the initiative was offering residents an opportunity to provide input on the following proposed priorities and action plans that would form the foundation of Markham's strategic direction:

- Growth management

- Environment

- Transportation/transit

- Municipal services

- Parks/recreation/culture/library/public safety

- Diversity

Click with Markham featured a lively and engaging website that included video, information about the town's six priorities, as well as an animated greeting by Mayor Frank Scarpitti who encouraged Markham residents to provide feedback and have a real hand in shaping the community's future. The program was a tremendous success where more than 7,200 residents entered the digital experience. In total, more than half of the respondents (4,300) provided feedback to the strategic priorities through the online experience.
