Demand for Rental Apartments Higher in Hamilton and Brantford

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 13, 2011) - According to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's (CMHC) Fall 2011 Rental Market Survey for the Hamilton and Brantford Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs), the average vacancy rate in Hamilton moved lower to 3.4 per cent and in Brantford to 1.8 per cent, compared to 3.7 per cent in both markets in the previous year.

"Some households postponed purchasing a home this year and instead decided to stay in their rented apartment. This trend was more pronounced in Brantford than in Hamilton, leading to a larger drop in the vacancy rate there," said Sarah Fong, CMHC Senior Market Analyst for the Hamilton and Brantford area.
