Dematic Announces Scholarships for University of Waterloo's Faculty of Engineering

WATERLOO, ON--(Marketwired - November 03, 2015) - Dematic, a global leader in supply chain optimization, celebrates the one year anniversary of its location in Waterloo by announcing scholarships valued at $10,000 for the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Engineering, called the Dematic Scholarship for Excellence in Supply Chain Optimization.

Dematic strategically established an office in the Region of Waterloo to capitalize on the world-class technology and engineering talent in the area. Shortly after opening this office, Dematic established a strong relationship with the University of Waterloo to also contribute to the educational community.

The Dematic Waterloo team includes a number University of Waterloo graduates. They and other Dematic team members are currently working on two research projects with the University funded by a federal Collaborative Research and Development (CRD) grant and a provincial Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) grant. In addition, Dematic is participating in and supporting the University's co-op education program.

"Dematic is a large global company and could choose to set up an office anywhere in the world. Dematic chose Waterloo because the quality of the tech talent here is undeniable," said Pete Devenyi, Vice President Global Software Development, Dematic. "We wanted to mark our anniversary by investing in the community and the people we hope to recruit and mentor. This scholarship is a natural addition to an already great partnership with the University of Waterloo."

"Waterloo Engineering is delighted that Dematic has launched an undergraduate scholarship in supply chain optimization, an area of specialization in our Management Engineering program," said Pearl Sullivan, Dean of Engineering for the University of Waterloo. "We are pleased that the global supply chain leader has established a research and development office in Waterloo and look forward to continuing to forge our partnership in education and research."

"The City of Waterloo has attracted global companies, like Dematic, because of our world-class engineering talent. Last year we were thrilled to welcome Dematic to Waterloo when they opened an office here, and it's inspiring to see them continue to invest in local talent through the announcement of this generous scholarship for the University of Waterloo," said Mayor of Waterloo Dave Jaworsky.

The Dematic Scholarship for Excellence in Supply Chain Optimization will be awarded to one male and one female second year engineering student at the University of Waterloo, selected based on academic standing and an essay submission.
