Dentists Promote Oral Cancer Awareness Month in April With Help From Concerto Internet Marketing

FORT COLLINS, CO--(Marketwire - April 4, 2011) - A group of dentists in various cities across the United States are promoting oral cancer awareness this month. April is Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness month.

Dentists play a leading role in identifying oral cancer in its earliest stages and these dentists are going the extra mile to increase awareness of the dangers of oral cancer. The dentists include Dr. Kenneth Siegel of Philadelphia, PA (www.dentalexcellenceofbluebell.com), Dr. John Pappas of Phoenix, AZ (www.smilearcadia.com), Dr. Ken Collins of Spokane, WA (www.wemakespokanesmile.com), Dr. Mark Dunayer of West Nyack, NY (www.rocklandsmiles.com), and Dr. Kevin Berry of Denver, CO (www.tmjtherapyandsleepcenter.com). They are all offering free oral cancer screenings this month as part of a new patient exam.

Most people believe that unless they're heavy tobacco chewers that they are not at risk of oral cancer. Unfortunately, that's not the case according to Brian Hill, oral cancer survivor and founder of The Oral Cancer Foundation (www. oralcancerfoundation.org). "It used to be older individuals who were habitual tobacco users. Now, the primary cause of oral cancers, approximately 63%, is the HPV-16 virus." HPV-16 is one of several strains of the human papilloma virus widely known to cause genital warts and cervical cancer. According to Hill, "Anyone who is old enough to have sex is old enough to have the virus and should be screened for oral cancer. Basically, any adult who walks into a dentist's office should be screened," Hill said in an interview.

Oral cancer screening is quick, easy, and painless using new technologies such as ViziLite® by Zila Inc., Identafi® by Star Dental, and VELscope® by LED Dental. All of these technologies use a special light that causes abnormal cells to glow. The dentists are reaching out to existing patients to increase awareness, as well as new patients via their websites and Facebook with the help of Concerto Internet Marketing LLC, a dental web marketing company located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The normal cost for an oral cancer screening of this sort is about $50.
