Denver Study Reports Superiority of Handtevy System in Simulation Study

Research Is Latest Win in Notable Company Momentum and Growth

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL--(Marketwired - February 23, 2016) -  Pediatric Emergency Standards Inc., creator of the revolutionary Handtevy pediatric dosing system, was the topic of a recently published Denver study comparing differences in frequencies of medication errors and time to medication administration.

This is the first unfunded, peer-reviewed publication comparing the Handtevy System to the Broselow length based tape system. Investigators at Denver Health and Children's Hospital Colorado reported that the Handtevy System performed significantly better than the Broselow system in several areas including accuracy of medication dosing, speed of medication administration, paramedic preference and errors.

Some highlights of the study include:

  • Paramedics using the Broselow had a 63.8% error in accuracy of Dextrose dosing while those using Handtevy only had a 13.8% error rate.
  • Time to administer Dextrose was longer for the Broselow system at 220 seconds versus Handtevy at 173 seconds.
  • Underdosing of Dextrose was found in 84% (42/50) of scenarios using the Broselow system.
  • In a post-study survey, 91% of paramedics preferred Handtevy to the Broselow system while also citing it as easier (98%), faster (91%) and more accurate (88.2%).
  • The incidence of procedural and cognitive errors associated with adminstration of dextrose were higher with Broselow compared to Handtevy.

In addition to the powerful data in this latest study, the Handtevy system is experiencing strong overall company momentum as well, showing a 49% growth in 2015, expanding into 29 states. The adoption of the Handtevy system shows longevity and adaptability across industries, as the customer base continues to become diversified. Handtevy is currently implemented in hospitals, EMS agencies, air transport, cruise lines, airports, urgent care centers, theme parks and more.

Customers include Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Lines, Cleveland Clinic, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Denver Health, PHI Air Medical and others.

"I am grateful for the growing adoption of the Handtevy System and the support we have received," said Dr. Peter Antevy, founder, Pediatric Emergency Standards, Inc. "This latest validation in the Prehospital Emergency Care journal only continues to motivate us to get the Handtevy System into more hands to improve the outcomes of sick and injured children worldwide. We are fortunate to have extraordinary healthcare providers that serve our communites and to be able to provide a system to make their difficult job of treating children so much easier gives me great satisfaction."

Handtevy is the first-of-its-kind, hybrid age and length-based pediatric dosing system that eliminates medication calculations, increases medication administration accuracy and allows for emergency care delivered on scene.
