Denver Zoo and Children's Hospital Colorado Present the Annual Teddy Bear Clinic

First 500 Children Will Receive a Plush Version of Mascot "Elbert"

DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - September 17, 2015) - Denver Zoo, in partnership with Children’s Hospital Colorado and premier sponsor UnitedHealthcare, will host the Zoo’s second annual Teddy Bear Clinic on Sept. 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite teddy bears and other stuffed animals to the clinic for Zoo staff members to provide health checks. The first 500 attendees to the event will also receive plush versions of “Elbert,” the bear, the Zoo’s and Children’s Hospital Colorado mascot.

In addition to smaller versions of Elbert, Children’s Colorado and Zoo staff will hand out certificates of health at check-in to all children who visit the Zoo’s Explore the Shore Play Area. Families can walk around the Zoo to different stations where volunteers and staff will provide “medical” procedures for stuffed animals while educating young guests about healthy habits. Guests will also learn about the excellent care zookeepers and veterinarians provide the animals here at the Zoo.

Elbert, a 6-foot-tall, 300-pound, brown-colored bear named after the highest mountain in Colorado, does not belong to an official species, but was born in the Rocky Mountains. He’s known for his soft brown fur, bright smile and heart-shaped patch of fur on his chest. With favorite foods of fish, fruits and vegetables, and hobbies such as dancing, hiking and skiing, Elbert loves to promote healthy eating, kid safety, caring for animals and an active lifestyle. His friendly and adventurous personality is sure to make him many friends.
