Descartes Named a Top Provider of Worldwide Transportation Management Solutions

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 16, 2006) - Logistics software and services specialist The Descartes Systems Group Inc. was cited as a top provider of transportation management solutions (TMS) in ARC Advisory Group's 2006 Transportation Management Systems Worldwide Outlook publication.

ARC's report evaluated many aspects of the global transportation technology market and recognized Descartes as the fourth largest "Leading Suppliers of TMS Solutions" by revenue, an improvement from Descartes' fifth place ranking last year. Descartes was also noted as a leader in a number of other categories that are core strengths of the company, including:

- #1 in Leading Suppliers of TMS by Recurring Fees

- #1 in Leading Suppliers of TMS to Carrier Sector

- #2 in Leading Suppliers of Fleet Management Solutions

The ARC report noted "... Descartes' success was not only the result of effective cost management, but also the result of continued product innovation". Descartes was named to the top five of ARC's "Leading Suppliers of TMS Solutions" in each of the previous 4 years.

"Historically, companies have had a fragmented view of their transportation and logistics operations," said Adrian Gonzalez, Director, Logistics Executive Council, ARC Advisory Group. "Private fleet operations were managed separately from for-hire; inbound, outbound, and intra-company shipments were planned and executed independently; and domestic and global operations were managed as silos. But as transportation costs have escalated, order-to-delivery cycle times have shrunk, and supply chains have become more global, leading companies are taking a more holistic perspective of their logistics operations in order to eliminate inefficiencies and remain competitive. Similarly, TMS solutions can no longer be viewed as a collection of standalone applications. Instead, TMS should be viewed from a more holistic perspective: as a critical enabler of the Procure-to-Pay and Order-to-Cash processes, which span across multiple modes and geographies, multiple trading partners and functional groups, and multiple trade regulations and compliance requirements."

Descartes said that over this past year it has worked with key customers around the world to deliver new functionality and significantly expand the capabilities of its logistics solutions. Descartes said that it currently has customers in Argentina, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, China, the United States and Canada successfully deploying the company's next generation TMS suite, comprised of ocean rate management, fleet and for-hire carrier management, visibility, customs compliance and logistics messaging.

"Our operational results over past quarters have allowed us to invest across our suite of solutions and services," said Arthur Mesher, CEO of Descartes. "I would like to thank our customers around the world for working with us to expand our fleet and for-hire transportation management capabilities to address their most challenging logistics needs."
