The Internet exchange will provide a neutral and reliable interconnection and peering point for Internet service providers from Spain and Portugal and for West African traffic which reaches Madrid via Lisbon.
Strategically located right in the middle of the Iberian Peninsula, Madrid has long been the center of an extensive telecommunications network. While Spain has one of the largest mobile markets in Europe and the video streaming market is growing, the development of interconnection platforms lags behind.

DE-CIX Madrid will be located at the carrier-neutral Interxion data center in Madrid, which offers access to over 50 carriers and ISPs. It will be built on the DE-CIX Apollon technology platform and will reduce the duration of getting connected to a maximum of five working days. DE-CIX Madrid is expected to go operational in Q2 2016.
After Palermo (Italy), Marseille (France), and Istanbul (Turkey), Madrid will be the fourth southern European city to benefit from a newly opened DE-CIX exchange within less than a year.
